poor Frank Lovejoy has a wife, a child and one on the way with no job. He meets sleazy Lloyd Bridges who entices him into being his getaway driver for holdups. Things escalate with a kidnapping. This film addresses irresponsible and sensational provocative *journalism* and mob frenzy. As a side note, watch for uncredited burlesque comic Joe E. Ross in a nightclub scene. He was later a star in tv sitcoms Car 54 and It's About Time.

An actual 1933 lynching in San Jose, CA inspired the 1936 film “Fury”, directed by Fritz Lang, a 1947 novel, and this film, originally called “The Sound of Fury”, based on the novel.
