Synopsis
Detective Story is a 1951 American crime drama film noir directed by William Wyler and starring Kirk Douglas that tells the story of one day in the lives of the various people who populate a police detective squad. Kirk Douglas is very convincing. Ms. Grant (Blacklisted Communist) does a fine job playing herself. The best job is done by the character actors. The “Act of Contrition” seemed to be a mockery of Catholicism. I guess you have to consider the source. I give it an A for melodrama and a D- for accurate portrayal. Still, this a very good snapshot of where we were in the post war 1940’s. Better yet, where we thought we were.
