Synopsis
Hell Drivers is a 1957 British film noir crime drama film directed by Cy Endfield and starring Stanley Baker, Herbert Lom, Peggy Cummins and Patrick McGoohan. It was written by Endfield and John Kruse, and produced by the Rank Organisation and Aqua Film Productions. A recently released convict takes a driver's job at a haulage company and encounters violence and corruption.

Wow, before long Sean Connery would make the leap from this low-budget to the classy and classic spy thrillers as James Bond.

Stanley Baker, Patrick McGoohan and David McCallum in very early roles. Although rather melodramatic with cheap action inserts, (a crowd of roughnecks in a drunken brawl was a typical 50s motif for padding the filmlength) the script held it together so tight that one can overlook the faults and immerse one's self in the film's increasing inertia to the climax. Cinematography was also top notch. It made up for the cardboard characters played by the supporting actors. This is noir, after all, and one must suspend judgement, sit back and enjoy the ride.
