★★★★★ · Classroom Multimedia As It Used To Be · Eric_Petersen · 2004-05-20

I was born in 1970, so I was fortunate enough to experience those wonderful, long obsolete classroom multimedia devices known as filmstrip projectors and phonographs. That's what makes this priceless promo film so special. Geared toward middle school teachers, the Panorama was a filmstrip projector connected to a phonograph. The filmstrips came with records to listen to and accompanying books for students to read. The Panorama filmstrip programs all dealt with geography, but one can see how the device could be used to teach anything. Alas, the Panorama would vanish faster than the 8-track…

★★★★ · Panorama good for its time · ERD. · 2009-03-17

Audio visiual aids always helps make subjects such as Social Studies more interesting for students. The Panorama series made back in the 1960's seemed like a good idea and wasn't overly expensive. The samples shown in this film looked like they were very well done. Of course now, with DVD's, etc., the films strip is obsolete. "Miss Clark Introduces Panorama" was an effective way of getting teachers of that decade to buy the product.

★★★ · Filmstrips, blah. · JayKay49 · 2012-02-16

I thought that in general, only Catholic schools used filnstrips which (in catechism) we occasionally had to endure on subject matter of things like sin and saints [I think]). But with regard to "entertainment value" filmstrips paled in comparison to the use of projectors and those hilarious movies we had for health class in our public schools. In fact I distinctly remember a public school teacher having a filmstrip presentation and we all just sat there and fell asleep. But it sure looks like we could have learned a lot from this series that we didnt learn otherwise. Geography in my public…

★★★ · Back when filmstrips were king.. · Spuzz · 2003-11-11

Okay overview of the Panorama educational system, which was a multimedia set (I doubt the word was around then) of a filmstrip, a record and a book about a certain place. These sets were only about Geographical places, Like Italy, Rome, and the Soviet (pronounced Something like Serviette in the film) Union. Also as a novelty, they had celebrities talking about the country. Now Charles Boyer talking about France I can understand, but Vincent Price talking about Italy? Lowell Thomas about Thailand? The sets are rather expensive I thought for the time we were talking about here. Finally, Miss…

★★ · And picture number 7 shows.... · donwert · 2010-03-16

A promo film, no doubt intended for teachers, to sell a film-strip/record/book combo to teach children about other countries. Apparently, the company that made this product was under the impression that Hawaii was a "country". The intro to the set on France tells us that it is the land of romance, because it's never to soon to teach children cultural stereotypes! Glad I never had to sit through this boring crap. When I was in elementary school, everyone got excited when entering the classroom to see the film projector set up. The film-strip projector? Not so much...
