The Phantom (1931)

Every time I look at one of these old films I marvel at the clarity. I realize that there are scratches, and some fading, but all in all for a movie that is over 80 years old it looked pretty good. I wonder why some people pick on the acting, do they understand these actors didn't have the advantage of acting schools, stand-ins, multiple retakes. I enjoyed this movie just as I have enjoyed all of the films offered by archive.org. I am glad there is a group of people that spend their time, and efforts in keeping these films alive. As for me, I regret the day colored films were made.

I love these old movies. They are a fantasy! They are entertainment. If you want realism go outside to the real world... maybe downtown in a major city... maybe to an inner-city rescue mission! I'm not sure how a movie that is entitled "The Phantom" would make anyone expect "Realism!" Enjoy the fantasy and watch the movie!!

Lunatics everywhere, even in the screenwriting and directing departement. Not to forget the actors, always over the top, always using the body language they learned to do in the silent movie days. All in all: a watchable film (maybe only once) as a comedy

This movie is fine except one thing: the plot. Why are we taken to a sanitarium? It's not convincing.
