This was a murder mystery along the lines of "clue". drew: Fast paced, great plot, typical of this director. Steve Haines was a great character, as a journalist/detective trying to solve the mystery. the final ruse he uses to solve the crime was very well done. The character "gloria" was very well played as well. I really enjoyed this film. laura: We couldn't guess who the murderer was.. that was done really well. The drunk english character reminded me of Dudley Moore in "Arthur", and made me giggle and pee (no.. not really). the way the love interest is resloved was a bit quick though. I…

This movie kept me guessing to the very end. I enjoyed the telegrams between he and his boss. And I really laughed when he asked for $1000, got $100, had to pay for his room which left him $8, sent another telegram, which left him .....

This is a very good, fast paced movie. What is really interesting about this flick is watching William Boyd playing in an non western movie. Boyd is famous for his Hopalong Cassidy charactor, and he does a good job in this movie without his horse ;)

So many times I have seen reviews that boldly announce that this is not William Boyd the Cowboy Star but some other fellow... But THIS William Boyd is the real McCoy... ???-whatever). Yes, it's Hoppy in what coulda been a serial but at the last minute changed into a sort of main feature; sort of a whodunit-at-sea but with enough oops-wrong-suspect dead ends to leave the conclusion a surprise ... sort of. If you want great writing, acting, or plot - look elsehwhere. No real bloodletting gore splashed around although several characters are ultimately dispatched. Here you'll see Hoppy in a suit…

I really liked this film until it suddenly jumped over an obviously large chunk of the film that had been edited out. I thought", That's weird. It looks as if they left something out." Then a few minutes later , it happened again. I've watched this film 5 times counting the spots where obvious chop jobs happened, and counted 7 places where a vital clue, a piece of action, or humorous situation is cut short, begins in the middle, or is completely missing. With the entire film intact, this film would definitely rate 5 stars. Here's hoping somebody tracks down and uploads the entire film…
