Synopsis

Pa Wallace, an ardent member of the Whales, is offered a chance to invest $5,000 in a gold mine by the head of the Whales, Grand Harpoon F. Q. Whitney. Mrs. Wallace is opposed but their four children--Willie, George, Edna, and Mary--are all for it: if Pa makes easy money, they can continue to loaf. Grandpa, a kind but meddling old soul, also arrives for a visit. Money begins to roll in but not as fast as the children spend it. The bubble bursts when the police arrest Whitney and his accomplice…

A bunch of spoiled brats have to learn their lessons in life and grampa is the one who teaches it to them. Before saying there is no plot try watching the movie otherwise all you see is the backs of your own eyelids and we get to read your hot air breathing back at us. It's a bit corny, but so what.. Lot's of old movies are that way. That's what makes them so enjoyable. Every nitwit spoiled rotten kid ought to have a grandpa like that!

For 1936 it is a normal "Aldrich Family" kind of family adventure with Andy Clyde as a grandfather who moves in with his brood. Quaint, a bit plodding, but hey, it's not bad for 1936. Worth a look just for historical reasons.
