Synopsis
Ellery Cushing is full of catchy sayings and old-fashioned wisdom. But all that his family cares about is how much money he makes, and all that his boss at the newspaper sees is that Cushing is getting too old to keep up with his work. So his loyal co-worker Phil decides to see what he can do to help everyone see what his friend has to offer.

The plot of this movie is somewhat similar to "Alice Adams," with Katharine Hepburn. There's a father who is given scant respect by most members of his family, except one child. They're constantly nagging him to make more money, stand up for himself, etc. (There are also some W.C. Fields movies along the same lines.) Then there's a romantic side to the story, in the form of a daughter who has a young suitor but is beguiled by an older city slicker. In the end the father, aided by the young suitor, "makes good" in an unexpected way.The daughter is saved from the clutches of the slicker, and…

Why was everyone mean to Dad, but then suddenly the son is nice. Like the writers decided to change the character but keep the what they already shot. There are few inconsistancies like that, the movie makers seemed to have many reconsiderations. It could be a good movie but it isn't, it's an after thought.
