Jimmy proves to the big racing moguls that his little country pony is no run of the mill farm variety. The big timers give Jimmy the opportunity to show how "swell" Mike is and it's a happy ending for at least boy and horse even though the dog meets a sad but heroic ending. I keep thinking how this very dated Cinderella story is the perfect piece to show 8 - 12 year olders with Smarty Jones about to run at Belmont this week. The story is cute and harmless with some lines debateably incredulous in delivery, but something for the younger set to latch onto should a parent hanker to send his kid…

Just the most manipulative piece of sludge you will ever get to see, The Great Mike deals with a boy (Timmy) and his horse (and dog).. Trainers realize that his horse, which was used to help Timmy with his paper route would make a good race horse, and Timmy agrees! But wait!
