Women in the Night (1948)

A group of women (one from each of the bigger Allied countries) is held by Nazis in Shanghai, who have developed a super weapon more devastating than the atomic bomb. For a movie made only three years after the war it is historically extremely inaccurate. Nevertheless, entertaining if watched as involuntary comedy.

Germany may have lost the war in Europe but world domination will be achieved through their secret atomic weapons. This could have been a serious attempt to bring to public attention Japanese crimes against the so-called "comfort women", a scandal that has refused to go away ever since. However, the dire script turns it into, to borrow karlom's phrase, "involuntary comedy". Pity the cast, who put in some sterling peformances to be rewarded by this Turkey.

Even though this had almost nothing to do with the subject it said it did and the women were barely abused at all except by the lone German female who could have won the war completely by herself with her nasty slap. The rest of the officers couldn't have won a game of tidly winks much less a war. If I'm not mistaken the burning building was from stock footage of a movie about arson and not of war plus the truck crashing off the bridge was about 3 inches tall...Oh I can't go on. I'm ruining a great movie... No wait.. The producers, actors and directors did that for them. Accidental comedy is…
