I recommend "It's The Natural Thing To Do", a Popeye cartoon available on this website. It sets you up to truly get the most out of "Song For Miss Julie".

I'm afraid this film did very little for me. I didn't find myself really caring about the characters, or the story that unfolded There are some nice comic moments and lines. In particular I liked the scene where the lemonade punch is spiked, getting everyone drunk. Also, there are some nice songs. However, overall, the film didn't do much for me.

Impossible artsy fartsy movie that you feel was almost made for the upper echelons of the society with its insipid comedy of manners of Southerners vs New Yorkers. A play is being written about an older actor. His Southerner granddaughter holds the rights to his estate, and is rather reluctant to give info about her grandfather to some visiting New York playrights. This soon disinigrates into a full family relative comes forward with some new information. This story again, is all treated too stiffly and so hoity toity that this is impossible to like. Sometimes I like a movie that got poor reviews, and sometimes I dislike a movie that got good reviews. So I decided to watch this movie inspite of the poor reviews, and well, the poor reviews were right. It's not really worth watching. This movie could have been better if it was rewritten as a comedy and starred Bob Hope.

SONG FOR MISS JULIE has a script full of cliches- even for 1945. Besides a weak story, the songs and musical numbers are mediocre. The actors try, but don't have much of a script to show off their talent. Add to this the low production budget from Repulic pictures, and you got a dud.
