Delinquent Daughters (1944)

This was actually a very watchable movie. Yes, the actresses were too old to be teenagers but the movie itself was not so bad for when it was made. I actually enjoyed it even though at the half-way point I was wondering if I was near the end or not. It turned out to have a happy ending, at least for some of the kids.

This is a strange 1944 PRC film. This very early juvenile dilinquency film (made during the war, when you would think the country's JD's would be in the Pacific Theater) uses young female leads as sort of stand-in stunt doubles for the young male JD roles; the "stunt" being acting. The young males are there all right; committing most of the crimes, but the females have the majority of the acting burden. No doubt this was due to the shortage of males in the country at the time, but the result is something that gives this one a different feel from other JD films. All the standard formulamatic…

Haven't watched it yet. Waiting for the title change. Watched it years ago, but don't remember anything but that the time was Delinquent Daughters then. No rating until I watch it. Okay, Sept 10th, watched it, wish I hadn't. So dark, got a headache. Pretty girls, too old for high school, really not what I hoped for.Will give it 2 stars because was probably ahead of it's time, but nothing else.
