Synopsis
Oh, Susanna! is a 1936 American Western film directed by Joseph Kane and starring Gene Autry, Smiley Burnette, and Frances Grant. Written by Oliver Drake, the film is about a cowboy who is robbed and then thrown from a train by an escaped murderer who then takes on the cowboy's identity.

This is a family film, that probably has more appeal to the men/boys, rather than the women/girls. Lots of running around, and 'high-speed' horse chases. Some good comedy, courtesy of Smiley B. Some good acting by Gene, especially in the background, injured.... allowing supporting actors their scene.More than once he takes a withdrawn position and other, minor characters get their "time" in front. I actually love this film, for it's innocence and naivete... it is a bedrock.

Again, you know, Gene Autry. Singing cowboys, action, etc. However, Gene is not the star of this one. Not a bad movie, not a good movie, but my dentist loves Gene. Maybe you do too.

I wasn't bored either - The other two reviewers got it right. It isn't good, it isn't bad, it's just entertaining and another Gene Autry movie. I liked it. I'm not sorry I watched it, and I don't think you would be.

Gene Autry films of this period are formulaic - as much music as can be squeezed in and still have just enough time for a western style plot and love. Here, train riding Autry gets knocked out by Boothe Howard (Wolf Benson) an escaped murderer who changes clothes with Autry, tosses him out of the train window and assumes Autry's identity. Howard then goes to the Lee Dude Ranch and tries to get back the money Autry has recently loaned Carl Stockdale (Lee), but has to murder him to get the money.
