Synopsis
Private detective 'Duke' Martindale and his wife, Phyllis, an attorney, are working together to clear a girl falsely convicted of murdering a judge. Two people who know the truth are killed and 'Duke' Is shot at. Despite some interference by Police-Sergeant Brent, and a dangerous automobile chase and 'Duke' and Phyllis finding themselves prisoners of the real murderers, the case is solved.

A delightfully entertaining whodunit with a good cast who played their parts excellently. After all the tongue in cheek one liners, you could say that this is not a case of film noir but a case of comedy thriller (albeit quite light on the thriller aspect). Fast forward to 1960s Gotham City where we find our hero with a new name and the position of Police Commissioner. Yes, Neil Hamilton was Commissioner Gordon to Adam West's Batman. Not a bad career move for a policeman turned private eye!! That last sentence was written with tongue firmly in cheek.

This is the kind of light weight, relatively cheap little programmer that small theatre owners and "B' movie houses loved in the '40's as a mid-week feature which usually played Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday including matinees and could be paired with anything. This little film tries to be funny (which it really isn't) and a mystery (which it's just passable as) and nothing more. It has some very pleasant actors in the cast including Neil Hamilton, June Storey just off a contract with Republic Pictures, great looking girl but too young to play a sophisticated attorney, wise-guy Douglas…
